Aint this some ishhh. This controversial cartoon thats is on the cover of this week’s New Yorker, Barack and Michelle Obama are depicted in an offensive manner. The picture above depicts Michelle Obama with an afro, AK-47 machine gun (poking fun at her American Revolution thoughts) Barack Obama is depicted as a muslim ( poking fun at his the Muslim controversy that he’s been denying since the beginning of his campaign), and it also shows a picture of Osama Bin Laden on the wall, as well as the American Flag burning in the fireplace.
The New Yorker had this to say about the cover:
On the cover of the July 21, 2008, issue of the The New Yorker, in ‘The Politics of Fear,’ artist Barry Blitt satirizes the use of scare tactics and misinformation in the Presidential election to derail Barack Obama’s campaign.”
A representative for Obama had this statement as well:
The New Yorker may think, as one of their staff explained to us, that their cover is a satirical lampoon of the caricature Senator Obama’s right-wing critics have tried to create. But most readers will see it as tasteless and offensive. And we agree.”
The Cartoonist who drew the political cartoon made this statement:
I think the idea that the Obamas are branded as unpatriotic [let alone as terrorists] in certain sectors is preposterous. It seemed to me that depicting the concept would show it as the fear-mongering ridiculousness that it is.
I think this mess was so uncalled for. And the man who drew this and the New Yorker, should be sued for this horrific cartoon. FOOLISHNESS.
