Maxwell is currently on tour and over the weekend he performed at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Of course the tickets were sold out, seeing how Maxwell has been m.i.a. for the longest. Jazmine Sullivan was his opening act, and it’s obvious by the picture below that homegirl tore it down.

GRAMMY U Soundchecks with Karina Pasian

Grammy U held a soundcheck for Def Jam Recording Artist Karina Pasian earlier today at the Electric Factory in Philly where she also did a Q&A session for her guests. Karina is of  dominican descent and she can sing in seven different languages. The 17 year old performed at the White House for President George W. Bush last year in celebration of Black Music Month, making her the first person of Dominican descent to perform there. Pasian became the subject of a bidding war when she was thirteen between three major record labels, Def Jam, Interscope, and Bad Boy Records. She ultimately chose Def Jam in 2006 because they “made the best offer.”  I had the pleasure of chatting with Karina last year and shes a really cool person. To hear music from Karina and learn more about this amazing talent make sure you visit her official website HERE. Check out more pics of her at the Grammy U Soundcheck below:

The Africa Fashion Festival took place last night at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall in Washington DC. The Afica Rising Festival was created by Nigerian THISDAY newspaper editor-in-chief Nduka Obaigbena,  he created the music and fashion festival to highlight Africa’s artistic, political, and economic culture.

“Africa Rising Music Festival is to tell the world that there’s more about Africa than the news intends you [to] see — [more] than the wars, than the famine and all of that,” says Obaigbena.

The event featured a fashion show promoting supermodels and leading African Designers. Jay-Z and John Legend took the stage to perform as well.

Nigeria designer Fati Asibelua, who showcased her work at the festival, founded her boutique line Momo in 2000.

“The modern clothing we have to tap into the African culture into our design and therefore for Europeans and Americans it is something new, we have not seen this,” she says.
